Barun Barune (translated from the original Farsi as “It’s Raining”) is a long musical piece based on the principals of Eastern music and the maqam system. The piece combines melodies of the course participants alongside melodies of the course teachers, Gilad Vaknin and Johanna Riethmueller. In keeping with Eastern music traditions, the performance focuses on real-time music-making, highlighting elements like improvisation, spontaneity, predictable and unpredictable responses and more.
