Since ancient times, insects have had a central role in mythology, literature and art. Perhaps their supposed biological alienage is what has driven us to regard them as an actual and metaphorical threat, rather that allies and companions also responsible to a large extent for our fresh food. Today’s ecological awareness – which has developed following the climate crisis, among other things – calls for a perceptual change. It is clear that aggressive pest control methods and rapid urbanization lead to far-reaching changes in ecological systems, and that harming the insects’ life patterns results in worldwide hunger and other adversities.
The group exhibition “The murmur of a bee”, proposes a new paradigm regarding the way we think about insects, aware that “We are just guests in the world of insects, late to arrive and very not polite”. (From: Small world: Portraits of Insects, Dror Burstein).
