Israel history is strewn with social protest: demonstrations, strikes, and calls voiced against various social wrongs. Almost inversely, the Israeli design tradition in this field is virtually devoid of images.

The protests, for the most part, are free of imagery, crying out verbal messages. Protest is conveyed as text written in magic markers or brush on a sign, at times on a printed poster or on a stretched sheet of tarpaulin, and almost always consists of words, words, and more words.

In the exhibition “Wordless”, twelve designers created posters which explore Israeli protest’s relation to the image and the feasibility of social protest without words.
