portraitomat | Noam Wenkert | Painting-Performance with audience participation
This is a booth that resembles the amusement photo booths one can find in many venues. Instead of producing a photo, it produces a painting. Naturally the process of the action is longer than the time it takes for a photograph to be taken. The painting perceives the changes taking place over time. It is an action of interpretation, and so the outcome is hard to predict. A new experience is created: A machine which is not a machine. The buttons and indicators are made of cardboard and instead of a camera a painter sits inside and paints. It's a place you walk into by yourself, yet you are aware someone else is in there with you. It's painting where the outcome depends on two people: the painter and the subject. It is art being made out of the will to play with the audience and to give them something.
